Tools for Non-Formal In-service Providers
was initially developed in 1995 in response to a specific need for
training non-formal educators. Most of the teacher training in
environmental education continues to be offered by non-formal
educators, the majority of whom have never taken any coursework in
educational philosophy or methods. The Tools training provides non
-formal educators a “crash course” on the background, culture,
language, and priorities of formal education. It offers suggestions on
how to maximize contacts with classroom teachers, particularly when
offering teacher training, thus enabling them to gain the cooperation
and credibility that they deserve.
